BCCI ready to bring two new teams in IPL, now so many players can be retained!

The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) has made up its mind to include two new teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). For which the process OF bidding will begin in mid-August. New teams may be announce that in mid-October after the mandatory scrutiny.

Along with this, the board are also prepare a blue print for the retentions of the players, budget amounts of franchise teams and medias rights. RP -, Aurobindo Pharma Limited (Hyderabad) , Adani Group (Ahmedabad) ,Torrent Group (Gujarat) and Sanjeev Goenka Group ( Kolkata ) are showing interest in the auction process. Same as other corporate entities, private equity and investment advisory firms are also interest in those things.

According to the report of Times of India, BCCI is ready to increase the budget amount from Rs 85 crores to Rs 90 crores. This means that Rs 50 crore will be added for the total budget amount. The franchisee will have to compulsory spend 75 % of the required amount. The budget amount will increase from Rs 90 to Rs 95

Retention of players has also been almost finalized. Each franchise can retain up to four players before the mega auction, but certain conditions have been kept for that too. Teams can either retain three Indian and one foreign player or two Indian and two foreign players .

According to the existing rules, if the franchise retains three players, then 15 crores, 11 crores and 7 crores are deducted from its budget amount. If the team retains two players, then Rs 12.5 crore and Rs 8.5 crore are deducted. At the same time, there is a provision of deducting Rs 12.5 crore from the budget amount for retaining the same player.

Now that the BCCI will allow four players to be retained with an increase of Rs 5 crore in

the budget amount. So in such a situation, there is a possibility of a slight change in this rule.

Some players may prefer to go to the auction instead of not being retained. The reason behind this is that with the increase in the budget amount, two new teams are also being added. In such a situation, there can be a competition to buy players in franchise teams. Some prominent Indian cricketers can also put their names forward for the auction.

The BCCI is also planning to auction the media rights by the end of 2021. There is a possibility that the month of March from 2023 may be available for the start of IPL. In such a situation, it will be easy for the board to organize 90 matches between 10 teams. The BCCI and the in industry expect a minimum 25 per cent increase in the value of media rights going forward. The OTT space has seen a huge growth in comparison to television broadcasts due to the Corona pandemic. The OTT space can also play an important role in the auction of media rights in the coming days.
